Qota Kaysay: Living Lake community bird conservation

The Q’ota Kausay project (from Aymara and Quechua words it means Living Lake), the project will take place in Titicaca National Reserve, a Peruvian Ramsar site.
The project goal is to involve to Local communities in the conservation of Titicaca Lake in all their components; Biodiversity and Cultural importance alike. Through the implementation of different strategies, working with partners like the administration of Titicaca National Reserve and the local communities, including bird monitoring to get to know the bird population trends of endemic and migratory species like Titicaca’s grebbe and shorebirds.
We will also collect cultural information about bird importance, through workshops in communities, where we assess the knowledge about bird socio-economic importance or value. Furthermore we will conduct interviews and surveys to key stakeholders to collect data to help us to implement conservation strategies with the administration.
