Promoting Model For Community Conservation Of Mongolian Marmot
The aim of the project is to protect the Mongolian Marmot by introducing long term community conservation agreement. We propose the following objectives:
- ey Marmot area adjacent to the target local protected area (LPA) covering around 30,000 ha is taken under local protection
- As of 2020 a minimum of 25% of Marmot habitat on the LPA is protected by conservation agreements with herder communities
- Capacity of the communities in and adjacent to the LPA is developed.
Approach:
- Participatory and inclusive
- Community conservation areas
- Conservation agreement
- Carbon offset
- Competences for protected area We have successfully piloted long term conservation agreements for Mongolian Marmot in Tumen han-Shalz LPA under UNDP project. Based on the above experience we propose to introduce conservation agreements for Marmot as a key tool address the threats to the target species. Methods:
- Desktop review
- Line transects and observation
- Questionnaire
- Consultation meeting
- GIS
- InVEST model
- SolVES model
- Zonation model Activities
- Participatory assessment
- Expansion the target LPA
- Conservation agreements for Marmot
- Conservation training
