Conserving the endangered Saffron-cowled blackbird Xanthopsar flavus and other threatened grassland bird species in rapid disappearing natural habitat in southern Paraguay

The project is focused on the conservation of grassland birds, and in particular on the flagship of the project. Chopi (Xanthopsar flavus). Based on an assessment of the IBAs in the southern part of the country, where it was recorded that even when some IBAs still keep important birds populations, most of the IBAs lack of protection and the quality of habitat is very poor to hold healthy populations of birds.

The aim of the project is to address the problems of these IBAs, working in a closest collaboration with the land owners and also involving local conservation groups. We seek:

  1. to implement good practices through the Grassland alliance with the land owners, and
  2. to work with local communities through capacitation and strengthen of local conservation groups.
