Aqua-program for the conservation of amphibians in Moorland Colombian

With the support of the Kamsá indigenous community and the Van Tienhoven Foundation, Corpofuverde aims at the sustainable conservation of the pastusa frog (Atelopus pastuso), in the moorlands of the Colombian Amazon basin.

Habitat destruction, climate change and the attack of the chytrid fungus have decimated the populations of this amphibian, reducing it to critically endangered according to the IUCN global red list. We propose to strengthen the conservation capacities of the indigenous Kamsá community, coexisting with the target frog, and through training, creation of a protected natural area, sustainability and dissemination of the project, save the pastusa frog from extinction.

The project outcome is the increase in the population of grass frogs from <49 to> 250 mature specimens, at the end of the 24 months of the project; restoration of habitats and vaccination of tracked specimens to avoid infection with chytrid fungus.
