Addressing the Forgotten Decline: Spotted Hyena Conservation in Zambia

Spotted hyenas are the most misunderstood and maligned of the large African carnivores. They are declining due to the same human-caused threats facing big cats and wild dogs. However, hyenas also suffer from intensely negative public images, lack of support for their conservation, and lack of data to highlight and evaluate the severity of their plight. No one cares about them, most people dislike them, and there are few resources for conserving them.
